I think a lot of parents are disappointed when they leave a cake smash session. There are so many Pinterest-perfect shots of babies with their faces full of cake that parents leave surprised and disappointed that their little one didn't act that way when presented with their own cake.

In my experience, most kids are *not* that into their cake. In fact, most of the kids I've had in studio actively hate their cake and want nothing to do with it.

Do you want to know a little secret? I am always able to capture lots of great images of the little ones and we try to stage the images to look like they liked their cake. We can stuff Cheerios or goldfish into the back the cake to get them to reach for it, or, like sweet Nigel (pictured) we put him close enough that he thought it was fun to play with it with his adorable little toes!

So fear not, parents! You'll get a great cake smash gallery even if your little hates their cake :)

If you're thinking of booking a cake smash, get in touch today, as some props are hard to find and need to be ordered well in advance of your session.

Every time I edit a gallery I think "Maybe this will be the time to add some in black and white"...and then I don't because I love the colour so much. It is rare that I change a picture to black and white because I feel like the photo loses something when it loses the colour. Some of you may have noticed that I've transitioned to a minimalist style of newborn photography. I found that I LOVE white on white for newborns because it makes you actually *see* the newborn. Don't get me wrong, I love a good prop shot, but I love that the minimalist style focuses on the baby.

I got on a bit of a tangent there, but the point is that once I started photographing the minimalist style of newborn, I felt that those shots really could be converted to black and white without losing any of their impact. And so I present to you, the black and white images of the adorable Norah (best viewed full screen by clicking on the image to make it larger).

I'd love to hear your thoughts on black and white photos!
